Etiquette for attending kabuki performances does not differ from audience etiquette for attending most Western straight plays or musical theatre performances.
To be respectful of the actors, those involved in production, and fellow audience members, remember to turn off your cell phone and other electronic devices, do not take pictures or videos of the performance, do not talk during the performance, do not eat or drink inside the theatre, remove headwear and do not lean forward as this may block the view of the people behind you, and remove noisy or disruptive children from the theatre.
Kabuki performances are not usually age restricted.
Formal dress is not required to attend. However, some women may choose to wear a traditional kimono when attending a production's opening night.
